At Luban Oasis, we source exclusively from Oman's Dhofar region, home to the Boswellia sacra tree and the legendary Hojari grade that has captivated the world for centuries.

How Frankincense is Harvested

Harvesting frankincense is an art passed down through generations. Skilled harvesters make careful incisions — called tapping — in the bark of the Boswellia sacra tree. The tree responds by releasing a milky-white resin that slowly hardens in the dry mountain air into the precious tears we know as frankincense.

The process is slow, deliberate, and deeply respectful of the tree. Each tree is tapped only a few times per season, allowing it to rest and recover. This patience is what preserves both the quality of the resin and the health of the trees for future generations.

Understanding the Grades

Omani frankincense is graded by colour, size, purity, and aroma. The lighter and more translucent the resin, the higher the grade — and the more complex and refined the scent.

🟢 Royal Green Hojari — Grade 1

The crown jewel of Omani frankincense. Royal Green Hojari is the rarest and most sought-after grade, distinguished by its pale green hue, large uniform tears, and an extraordinarily clean, citrusy-fresh aroma with deep balsamic undertones. Burned by royalty and connoisseurs alike, this is frankincense at its absolute finest.

⚪ Silver Hojari

Prized for its silvery-white colour and bright, crisp fragrance, Silver Hojari is a close companion to the Royal Green. It burns with a clean, long-lasting smoke and delivers a lighter, more delicate scent profile — perfect for daily use and meditation.

⚫ Black Hojari

Darker in colour and bolder in character, Black Hojari carries a richer, earthier aroma with warm, woody notes. Traditionally used in Omani homes for its grounding and purifying qualities, it is a staple of the Gulf incense tradition.

Why Dhofar?

The Dhofar mountains of southern Oman sit at a unique intersection of altitude, monsoon mist, and arid heat — a microclimate found nowhere else on earth. It is this environment that gives Omani frankincense its unmatched complexity and purity. The Boswellia sacra trees here produce a resin so clean and aromatic that it has been traded along the ancient Incense Road for over 5,000 years.

UNESCO has recognised the frankincense trees of Dhofar as a World Heritage Site — a testament to their cultural, historical, and ecological significance.

How to Burn Frankincense Resin

1. Place a piece of natural charcoal in a heat-safe burner and light it until it glows red.
2. Allow the charcoal to ash over slightly (1–2 minutes) before placing resin on top.
3. Place 2–3 small tears of frankincense resin on the charcoal.
4. Enjoy the rising smoke and allow the fragrance to fill your space.
5. Add more resin as needed. Each piece burns for several minutes.

Tip: Less is more. Start with a small piece and adjust to your preference.
